Lettuce wraps

Made this inspired by the lettuce wraps from P.F.Changs!
Recipe adapted from
3 tbsp oil
2 boneless skinless chicken breast
1 cup water
2/3 cup mushroom
1 onion chopped
1 tsp minced garlic
4-5 leaves iceberg lettuce

Special Sauce
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp soya sauce
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp hot mustard
2 tsp water
1-2 tsp garlic and red chili paste

Stir Fry Sauce

2 tbsp soya sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon rice wine vinegar
salt (if required as soya sauce has a good amount of salt in it)

  • To make the special sauce dissolve the sugar in water in a small bowl.Add soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, ketchup, lemon juice and sesame oil.
  • Mix well and refrigerate this sauce until you are ready to serve.
  • Mix the mustard with a little hot water and keep this aside.
  • Add your desired measurement of mustard and garlic chili sauce to the special sauce mixture to pour over the wraps.(add less if you don't want it too hot)
  • Heat oil in a large frying pan and roast the chicken breasts for about 5 minutes each side or until done. Remove from the pan and once cooled mince the chicken and the mushrooms.
  • In the same pan that the chicken was roasted, heat 1 Tbsp of oil and add the onion, garlic, chicken and mushrooms.
  • Add the stir fry sauce and saute the mixture for a few minutes.
  • Spoon this mixture into each lettuce leaf and drizzle over the special sauce on top. Wrap and serve.

The original recipe uses water chestnuts too other than chicken and mushrooms. I skipped that as I didn't get it.

  1. aaah... so so good... i love this stuff from pf changs... so good u shared the recipe, should try it... i guess next u going to try the dynamite shrimps??? ;)

    1. Ha ha ha Rafee, you got me right. Those shrimps are the next ones in my to do list. The two lip smacking specialities they have got!

  2. I am trilled over the Asian flavored sauce with those Asian ingredients. Probably I am looking at a veg version instead of chicken. I am sure it will turn out as good as your wonderful version.

    1. Yes Nava, I too was thinking of a veg version of this and I guess minced soya or crumbled paneer can replace the chicken as well.

  3. Wow, such lovely and fresh luking wraps.....

  4. Lovely recipe, can we try this with cabbage?first time here.happy to follow ucheck mine when time permits.

    1. Thankyou Ramya. Cabbage can also be tried but won't be as crispy and juicy as lettuce. Would love to follow your blog. Heading off to your blog right away:)

  5. This is super inviting :-) loved the last pic

  6. this looks so tempting..i loved the whole wrapping and the filling... i think the flavours will just burst inside my mouth.. with the first bite itself.....i have never tried these kind of about using poached cabbage leaves...
Now happy to be following.. do peep into my blog.. once....and leave your comments if you wish to

    1. Thankyou so much Preetha for visiting my blog. Will be really happy to follow you back. Poached cabbage rolls will taste different from the lettuce ones, because lettuce used here is fresh, so they tend to be crisp and juicy.

  7. Love it....makes a perfect appetizer....

  8. Ooooo yum love the shot in which the sauce is drizzled.Yummy wrap.

  9. Wow! yummy wrap. This looks delicious.
